Last Cast Charters
Last Cast Charters is one of Michigan’s premier fishing charters .We offer numerous types of Michigan fishing trips.Even though we fish for just about everything we specialize in Walleye and Steelhead fishing .
We can show you the latest tips and technologies to help you catch more fish. We are a Fishing Guide for every month of the year and try to target the best bite around. You can be sure that we will be able to satisfy whatever type of fishing your looking to do.
WINTER FISHING
With winter not being what it use to be. We are prepared to fish on or off the ice. The pike action can be great on several of our local lakes. It’s not uncommon in January or February to have 20 fish days on walleye or northern pike. We’ve been blessed landing several walleyes over 10 lbs each year. Fishing for big pan fish in the mean time is a welcome event for everyone. Some of the lakes we fish offer some of the largest bluegills you can find in West Michigan. The Muskegon Rivers and White River are open almost year around and winter Steelhead fishing can be fabulous.
SPRING FISHING
Beginning in early March the walleye fishing begins to heat up.Fish beginning to congregate into groups as they stage for their spawning run. With walleye fishing season closed on March 15th. The fish are big and plentiful . Trolling or pitching jigs can be outstanding. With the Muskegon area continuing to produce some of the largest recorded fish in the state.
This is the time you see their full potential. Over the years landing fish 12 to 14 lbs hasn’t been uncommon.
With Steelhead fishing still steady and ready to get into full swing. Fishing from the boat is a great option. Landing several Winter Stealhead and new arrivals as the ice melts often results in good action.Muskegon Perch Fishing Trips
April into the beginning of May brings two great option. The Steelhead
fishing heats up as big numbers begin to show up in the rivers to spawn. Fishing from the boat or stopping to fish Steelhead in waders is very productive. Double digits in a half day of fishing is common. Despite what some have come to believe .These fish can be fairly easy to catch. If you haven’t fished for Steelhead. I would highly recommend you try it.
Walleye at night is a good option trolling planner boards and lead core in lake Michigan is a great time. The post pawn Walleye drop back to feed on smelt and alewives and your right there to take advantage of it .Even though the fish aren’t at their peek weight. They are plentiful and show up there to feed. The action begins at dusk and last till dawn.
May and June is a different program all together. Walleye during the day is what we go after. Trolling crank baits in the lower parts of the rivers can be effective but live bait rigs are the way to go.
SUMMER FISHING
You can hardly go wrong with a summer trip in July. So many different fish are active. Fishing around the weeds can produce almost anything. Several of the lakes in the area produce good numbers of walleye ,pan fish, perch and northern pike during the day.
Night time Walleye fishing beginning in mid July begins to heat up but gets into full swing as we approach August and September. Averaging 5 lbs or better is common after sunset.
Muskegon Salmon Fishing
FALL FISHING
Beginning In October not only are the trophy Walleyes beginning to stage in their prewinter patterns but the fall Steelhead fishing begins. This time of the year the fishing just gets better and better . The closer you get to winter the more fish there are and the larger they get. Depending on mother nature November and December can be as as good as it gets .
Muskegon Lake Fishing is spectacular due to the history of the lumber mills . Piles of old wood create the perfect habit and structure to hold Walleye, Northern Pike, Bass and even Pan Fish. Muskegon Lake fishing is also a great place for Salmon fishing as the Salmon make their run up the Muskegon River system.
There are several Muskegon fishing guides and several Muskegon Charter boats in our area. Most of the Muskegon fishing guides , or Grand Haven fishing charters I know only target a specific type of fish to go after. Most of the Muskegon charter boats and Grand Haven charter boats only fish in lake Michigan. Their main stay is Salmon fishing, Lake Trout fishing and certain times of the year Steelhead fishing .
The fishing guides I know that fish Muskegon lake, White lake and Grand Haven tend to stick to one type of fishing. It might be Bass Fishing, Walleye fishing or even Cat fishing. Some narrow their focus even down to a specific body of water. It’s not uncommon for them to only run trips on Muskegon lake or a section of the Muskegon River, Grand River or White River. Even though we like to fish Muskegon lake for many reasons we go where the fish are based on what our clients want to fish for and where the fish are biting.
Muskegon fishing, Grand Haven fishing, Newaygo fishing and Whitehall fishing can be great for different fish at different times . A big part of being successful when fishing is finding active fish. We have two boats that we trailer which allows to do fishing charters in Lake Michigan, and on the many different rivers in Michigan. With the fact that weather and time of year effect different fish in different ways we figure it only makes sense to be mobile and diverse in what we fish for. Staying diverse and on the move also allows us to provide Muskegon fishing reports, Grand Haven fishing reports and, Whitehall fishing reports which are up to date. Don’t hesitate to email us for a fishing report for our area.
